I’m a multimedia journalist specialising in writing features, pop culture and social commentary and creating viral threads on Twitter. I’m also experienced in broadcast journalism – specifically podcast hosting, production, as well as appearing on radio and television.
Currently, I’m the Personal Essays and Opinions Editor at gal-dem – an online and print publication committed to sharing perspectives from women and non-binary people of colour. I freelance as a reporter, writer and podcast host on the side. I host a weekly news and culture podcast called ‘Your Broccoli Weekly’, which is paused atm due to COVID-19 restrictions and I’m currently working on another exciting podcast project.
My work has been featured in publications like VICE, Refinery29, gal-dem, Bustle, The Independent, Cosmopolitan, Restless Magazine, i-D etc. I was previously the National Editor at The Tab, where I also worked as a Staff Writer for two years.
I’m a first-generation Muslim immigrant who was born in Uzbekistan and moved to the UK at the age of 10. I’m a native speaker of Russian and Uzbek (although the latter is very rusty.) I also hold a History of Art degree from the University of Warwick. I’m passionate about magnifying marginalised voices, diversifying the media and making news more accessible.
